Who Wrote The Favourite Party Song 'Happy Birthday'?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

'Good Morning to All' was the original title of the song that the Guinness Book of World Records reports as the most popular song in the English language. Patty and Mildred Hill, schoolteachers in Louisville Kentucky, wrote the song in 1893 for their students to sing.  It's unclear when the lyrics were changed to the party favourite, but people were singing 'Happy Birthday' by the 1930s, when it first became copyrighted.  Since then, the copyright has been sold to Warner Chapelle. The copyright value is estimated at over 2 million pounds. Although technically, it may be that copyright laws require authorization for public performances of the song, the exact implications of the copyright are unclear.  As one of the most popular songs in the world, performances of 'Happy Birthday' would be very difficult to monitor. Many people couldn't imagine a birthday party without it.
