What Does The Slang "Grub" Mean?

    A grub is basically a slang term for food. It basically means to hold of by importunity. For example "grub a cigarette". Or even dig in the earth, where an example would be 'grub for a living.'  It is also considered to be informal terms for a meal chuck, eats, chow, etc. it also means to dig up by or as if by the roots. An example would be grubbed carrots with a stick.
    It is derived from the Middle English word grubben and also from the Old English word grybban.
