The burro is a small donkey used for carrying things and luggage. The word is actually a Spanish term meaning donkey. It is said that the Spanish were instrumental in getting the burros to North America by the end of the fifteen century. Apart from being used as pack animals (which they are used for in present times), they were also used for pulling carts. The burro gained a lot of importance because of their endurance to work in adverse conditions.

Soon, the tag “beast of burden” came to be attached to the burro and the donkey by the people hailing from the south western part of the US. Wild burros refer to the burros which were abandoned, freed or managed to escape from their masters. It goes without saying that a burro can be a very good pet if treated properly and given due attention. Quite contradictory to the term “ass” attached to the burro, these animals are actually clever and inquisitive.
