Can You Tell Me Anything About Crocodiles?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A crocodile is a carnivorous reptile that usually lives in fresh water in tropical parts of Africa, Asia, Australia and Central America. It is an ancient reptile and has not really changed very much in 200 million years.

It is a fierce hunter and predator and is greatly feared by humans in the regions where it lives. The estuarine or salt water crocodile is one of the biggest types and is known to have a taste for human flesh. It is now almost extinct because humans also have a taste for its skin – which they make into expensive handbags.

Crocodiles can grow to lengths of up to 20 feet and have long powerful tails that propel them when swimming. They can dive for long periods but cannot breathe underwater. They need to resurface regularly to get oxygen. They balance themselves in water by swallowing stones that sit in the stomach of the crocodile, acting as ballast.
