Philadelphia is a city in the state of Pennsylvania (also known as Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) in the northeast United States. Even though it is the largest city in Pennsylvania, it is not its capital.

It is the fifth largest city in the United States in terms of population. Over one and a half million reside there. The city is nearly equally divided between its White and African American populations. Together they make up over 88 percent of its residents. The other ethnic groups include native Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Iranians and Pakistanis. The city is also known by the abbreviated ‘Philly’ and as ‘The City Of Brotherly Love’.

The state of Pennsylvania is known as a keystone state as it was part of the original colonies that comprised the United States.
