What Does The Process Of Blepharoplasty Involve?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The process of blepharoplasty basically involves removing the extra fat around the eyelid to give the eye a more appealing look. It is not considered a major procedure, and hence is done as an out-patient procedure. Blepharoplasty involves an anesthetic to ease any pain or discomfort. However, as the patient, you have the option of choosing the type of anesthetic. Generally, a local anesthetic is administered. If you are uncomfortable about a local anesthetic, you can opt for a general anesthetic.

The procedure itself is quite simple. First, the surgeon makes an incision along the folds of the eyelid. The fold is usually at the furrows of the upper eyelid and just below the lower eyelid. At times, the need may arise to have the incision inside the lower eyelid itself. After cutting open the area around the eyelid, the surgeon takes out all the extra fat deposited there around the muscle, which leaves the skin sagging and hollow. The surgeon next tightens this skin, and then stitches the area. That is all.
