What Happens To My ISDN Connection/fax Machine/ Burglar Alarm When I Get A Broadband Connection?

There are a few things you should be aware of before placing your order for broadband.

Firstly, it's unlikely you will continue to need or want ISDN, so this will have to be disconnected from any BT line you wish to convert to broadband. This is not a biggie, and the company supplying your broadband will normally arrange for this to be done. Just be sure to tell them straight away to avoid unnecessary delays with implementing your broadband connection.

Fax machines, meanwhile, require a dedicated phone line so you will have to decide whether it is still necessary and cost effective. There are, for instance, a number of fax to email subscriber services available that enable users to send and receive faxes via their email inbox. This abolishes the requirement for a dedicated phone line and other running costs for paper, toner and electricity.
To send paper documents requiring a signature, the workaround is to scan the signed document in with a standard desktop scanner. The digital version can then be sent from a fax to email service or emailed as an attachment.

Burglar alarms require a dedicated phone line and cannot share with a broadband connection.
