What's The Poem “I Like To See It Lap The Miles” By Emily Dickinson All About?
Answers
This lovely poem has been composed by the gifted American poetess Emily Dickinson. She deals with subjects like life, success; failure, pleasure, sorrow and death. Her poetry is known for its flashes of wholly original and profound insight into nature and life. In this poem she has beautifully described the wonderful power and speed of a railway train. She has personified train as a big and powerful horse. The poetess has tried to pay rich tribute to its qualities. The poetess loves to see the train covering great distance in a very short time. It covers miles and crosses the valleys with an unbelievable speed and thunderous noise.
The poetess says t
hat the train stops to feed itself at water and full tanks. Then with a new strength and zeal it resumes its journey. It roars like an arrogant and proud animal. It peeps into the huts by the sides of the tracks as it runs through them. It also passes through a narrow tunnel making a loud and horrible noise. Then it moves down the hill at a tremendous speed and neighs like Boanerges, the famous war horse.
The poetess also describes some commendable qualities of train. It is punctual like a star and always reaches its destination on time. It stops at stations like an obedient and submissive servant. Then it displays its great power taking huge strides towards the next station.
The poem is very interesting as it changes black metal work and steam into something living and beautiful. The train losses its weight and ugliness and becomes lovable and fascinating.
