What Do You Put In A Tank For A Gardner Snake?

Answer Question

6 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Do not bring anything in from outside it could contain mites etc... Which can harm the snake. Simple newspaper for bedding, a couple places to hide, a water dish big enough for it to lay in, a heat pad and heat lamp, a screen lid with clamps is the basic tank set up. Here are some garter snake care sheets.....  www.wnyherp.org       www.popularpets.net      www.albinogartersnake.com

I have one myself, I put an oddly shaped stone, it is kind of jagged, its so he can shed his skin. I put fake grass on one side, newspaper on the other. I put a water dish with lukewarm water, I change it three times a week. I added a heat lamp over the fake grass. The snake has a few hiding spots made of coconut shells. I added a few plants (fake) overhanging the middle of the tank.

If you go to home depot they have indoor grass which I prefer for my garter, Ryanna is  right don't bring anything from outside you really don't want to mess with mites, they are terrible... At home depot or any kind of pet store find something preferably wooden to hide in, also a stone bowl is great make sure it is big enough for the whole snakes body to fit in so they can bathe, a stick of some sort that is put in diagonally that is secure is perfect for  them, they like to climb make sure that the top of your cage is tight and not loose places, and maybe a little bit of fake plant which can be found at a pet store this will really make your snake comfortable, also make sure you have a heat lamp on one side allowing the snake to escape the  heat if it gets too hot, don't leave the light on at night or when your not home, I hope I helped god lucky with your snake. =]
