homeostatic is the ability of the living organism to adjust to the external environment by adjusting its biological and physiological process thereby maintaining equilibrium.
In mammals the body temperature is maintained and regulated by hypothalamus which is situated in the brain. Homeotherm is the term given to those living organisms which have stable body temperature independent of the external temperature. Poikilotherm is the term given to those living organisms whose body temperature varies with that of the surrounding temperature. There are many ways through which organism maintain equilibrium of internal and external environment. Shivering is the process by which the living organism to increase the temperature of body internally so that it can adapt to the external cold temperature. Hibernation is the process in which the animal enters into the state of inactiveness like sleeping during the winter season. The state inactiveness observed in the summer season is known Aestivation.
