The leading goal scorer in last years UEFA champions league tournament was the then AC Milan player Andrei Shevchenko who scored nine goals.

Shevchenko's goals helped AC Milan reach the semi finals of the competition, where they were beaten by eventual winners Barcelona, losing the first leg of that semi final at their home ground, the San Siro, by a single goal to nil.  Milan where unable to retrieve the deficit and the Catalan giants went on to the final one nil aggregate winners.

Barcelona, the eventual winners of the two thousand and six Champions league final had the second and third highest scoring individual players in their squad, with Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho second highest goal scorer, notching seven goals.  His club team mate and Cameroon international Samuel Eto came in third with six goals.

Barcelona's triumph in the final, where they beat Arsenal two one in Paris, was only the clubs second victory in Europe's premier club competition.
