Which Boxer's Nickname Is ´Hands Of Stone´?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Many boxers, as befitting their macho image, choose (or are assigned) monikers and nicknames that lend weight to their claims of athleticism and invincibility.

Roberto Duran, the former lightweight champion from Panama, was given the nickname ´Manos de Piedra´ or ´Hands of Stone´ by an adoring public.  Has there ever been a more aptly named fighter?

Duran held world titles at four different weights: lightweight, welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight after starting his career fighting sailors in illegal dockyard bouts when only 14 years old!

Roberto is also one of a select group of boxers to have recorded more than fifty wins by knockout (he reached 70), having fought 119 times in total and winning 103 of his bouts.

In 2002, Roberto Duran was chosen by the fabled boxing magazine, The Ring, to be the fifth best fighter of the last 80 years.  He is also the only boxer to have fought in five different decades… were his hands carved from the rock of ages?
