Buddhism came into being after the 49 day long meditation by Gautama Buddha, in the search of truth. After the 49 days he felt enlightened and started preaching this religion. According to speculations it's said that this happened around the fifth century BCE. The place where Buddha meditated and from where this religion started was a pipal tree now known as the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya.
