It really depends on how familiar the cat is with you. If you are healthy then you can touch the kittens almost as soon as they are born and it won't have any affect on them. However, when we touch newborn kittens their odor changes and that can make the mother hostile towards its kittens. So it mostly depends on how much the mother trusts you and is familiar with you.
