The sixth Artemis Fowl novel is Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox. It is written by Eoin Colfer and was published in 2008. Colfer has not ruled out a seventh book in the Artemis Fowl series, but stated that there will be a three year wait until a next instalment is released.
The sixth instalment begins with Artemis’s mother suffering from a disease that cannot be cured using magic. He seeks help from captain Holly Short, a fairy who he captured in the first instalment but has since become friends with. Holly, with the help a warlock demon known as N°1, manages to identify the disease. It is Spelltrophy, a disease that is contracted through the use of fairy magic. Artemis learns that the only cure is brain fluid from the Silky Sifaka, a species of lemur, which are found in northeastern Madagascar.
Foaly, a centaur, informs Artemis that this is the only cure available and that without it, Artemis’s mother will die. Artemis realises that the cure will be much more difficult to find due to the fact that lemurs are extinct as a result of a deal that he made with The Extinctionists eight years earlier. Artemis asks N°1 to open up the time stream so that he can turn back time and prevent the lemurs from becoming extinct. Foaly is completely against the idea, telling Artemis that revisiting the past may cause problems for the present. Artemis argues that if his mother is not cured, then the disease may spread onto other humans. Foaly then agrees and Artemis tricks Holly into helping him.
With the help of N°1, Artemis and Holly travel to eight years earlier. With N°1 informing them that they must not remain in the past for longer than three days, there is much panic. Holly and Artemis find themselves in Artemis’s mother’s bedroom and end up being tranquillised by Butler, Artemis’s bodyguard. The Artemis from eight years earlier tells Butler to lock the older Artemis and Holly in a trunk so that he can examine them later. They are rescued by Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniac dwarf from the present. Artemis and Holly then make their way to the area within the manor where the lemur is being kept.
After Artemis is injured and rescued by Holly, he manages to obtain the lemur. Things go wrong when the younger Artemis sells the lemur to The Extinctionists and the older Artemis and Holly manage to capture it, only for the younger Artemis to sell Holly instead.
The Extinctionists prepare to kill Holly, but she is rescued just in time by Artemis. Artemis ends up in a pit that is used for killing animals. Things get even worse when Opal Kaboi, an enemy pixie who has antagonised Artemis on several occasions, captures Artemis and informs him that she has "mesmerised" The Extinctionists so that they will give her the lemur so that she can control time. Artemis and Holly escape to Fowl Manor but are pursued by the Kaboi. Artemis comes face to face with his younger self. They return to the present with the lemur and soon after Artemis discovers that Opal has possessed his mother and is also responsible for giving her the disease.
The younger Artemis travels back to the present with the older Artemis. The older Artemis manages to quickly get rid of Opal, but she returns. She chases Artemis as he flies away in a plane and eventually obtains the lemur only to discover that it isn’t the actual one. A final fight ends with Opal buried beneath rubble, but she later disappears. Artemis’s younger self is sent back to the past after having his memory wiped. It is then revealed that Artemis’s mother was "mesmerised" by Opal and now has knowledge of the existence of the fairies.
