Do Only Nervous People Suffer With Panic Attacks?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Many people who find that they experience panic attacks have never had any 'nervous' problems, so it is not true that panic attacks are only suffered by 'nervy' individuals.
Some people find that panic attacks are suffered after a traumatic incident, for example, the loss of a loved one.  The attacks may not arise for some months and then suddenly occur out of the blue.
Many people who have had panic attacks find that they arise briefly and then vanish, never to recur.  For others the condition may carry on for some time and develop into a panic disorder.
No one really knows why panic attacks occur.  It is thought that high blood levels of adrenaline may be the root cause.  Or it could be due to improper functioning of the autonomic nervous system.
However help is available and if you think that you are experiencing panic attacks, you should consult your doctor for advice on appropriate treatment.
