Mount St. Helens in Skamania County, Washington is an active stratovolcano, located in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. It is best known for its catastrophic eruption that took place on May 18, 1980. it proved to be the most deadly as well as the most economically destructive volcanic incident in the United States history.

    There has been renewed activity starting from 2004, which led to the closure of fractions of the area to hikers and tourists, As of July 21, 2006, however, the mountain has been opened again to climbers.
