I need to lose 50lbs for health reasons with out meds.

    I got in a contest with a bunch of coworkers to lose weight.  As a motivator we all put $100 in a pot winner-take-all.  It was a 3 month contest to see who could lose the most weight.   From Jan 7 to April 7th, 2008, I lost 45 pounds.  245 lbs to 200.  I'm male which seems to be easier than female, but 1 motivated female lost 36 lbs.  Others lost 40'ish.  Atkins Diet!   The first month I couldn't hardly exercise from being so out of shape.  Lost about 15 lbs per month.  I'd fall off the plan about once a month, for 2 or 3 days, then snap out of it and get going again.  Get the Atkins Book, read it yourself, everyone I know loses as much weight as they want too on this diet.  People don't read the whole book.  I'm now eating very healthy (that's in the book), but I understand what eating too many carbs does and know where to stop my carb intake.  I weigh everyday and if I start putting a few lbs on, I cut the necessary carbs right quick.  Anyway, I won't gain the weight back unless I start buffeting and eating like an idiot again.  Looking back I swear it was so easy.  Now I'm exercising 30 mins a day, looking fantastic, and feel like a million bucks.  Needless to say all my friends and family are shedding weight around me.  However I'm their coach and keep them encouraged.  I have one friend who'd lost 100+ lbs on Atkins before, but had slipped up and after about 3 yrs started putting it back on.  He encouraged me, now I've got him rolling - he's determined and I know he'll lose it all again.  But he knows how wonderful reaching the end will be.   Here's what made the difference for me, having failed so many times. The biggest thing - I had an ENDING DATE!  I was going to sacrifice until April 7th and be done with it.  2.  Motivation - money & desire to get fit again.   Write down your beginning weight & track it everyday.  Learn what Ketosis is, get the testing strips, get in Ketosis, and watch the weight melt off.    If I was with you, I could encourage you and it would make a difference.  Oh yes my Cholesterol dropped 50 points.  I just want to tell you that you really can do it!  I've seen it work over and over.  Don't let anyone tell you that the Atkins Diet is unhealthy - read the book.  Mr Atkins was 80 something yrs old and fell down, hit his head, and died.  Other diet competitors $ made a rumor that his diet killed him.   Do it - get it over with - and have a wonderful life!
