Where Is Malaysia?

Malaysia is a country located in Southeast Asia. It is a federation of 13 states. Malaysia basically consists of two main geographical areas- namely Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo which are divided by the South China Sea.

In 1963 the Federation of Malaya was renamed Malaysia. Originally it consisted of a fourteen nation federation but Singapore was expelled later on bringing the number of states down to thirteen.

Modern Malaysia is a quintessentially heterogeneous society. Officially the majority of the population is Malay but there are large Chinese and Indian minorities as well. Politics in Malaysia has reflected these divisions and it extremely communal in character.

The Capital city of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur which is incidentally also its largest city.
