What Or Who Is Angry White Pyjamas?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Angry White Pyjamas is a book by the poet Robert Twigger. Twigger won a poetry award at Oxford and ended up moving to Japan to teach English.

Stuck sharing a tiny room with his friends, and earning a pitance teaching English, he decided to enroll to train at the Tokyo Riot Police Training Course, an infamously difficult and arduous course in Aikido in Japan.

Without any knowledge of the Japanese language or of the Japanese martial arts, Twigger embarks on an adventure, discovering that blood stained uniforms is more of a reality than inner peace and gentle calm.

A great and fascination example of the Westerner's perspective on Japanese culture, Twigger's physical and mental condition harden to the reality of a very non-Western situation.

This book is worth a read whether you are interested in martial arts or the physical and psychological challenge that this thirty year old poet set himself.
