When Is The Brazilian Carnival?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Brazilian Carnival (which in Portuguese would be Carnaval) refers to a yearly flamboyant celebration in glitzy Brazil taking place 40 days prior to Easter. It thus is meant to mark the commencement of Lent. Roman Catholic, who make up the greater part of Brazil, are expected to give up bodily pleasures during Lent. Hence this carnival, which is known to be celebrated as quite a profane event, could be thought of as bidding farewell to such pleasures.

Overall the Brazilian Carnival has a couple of differences as compared to its counterparts observed in Europe as well as other places worldwide. Also, within Brazil itself the carnival has diverse regional manifestations. In general, the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro appears to be the most ostentatious and popular worldwide
