Symmetric and Asymmetric are part of the one concept that is Cryptography.
Symmetric Scheme uses same key for encryption and for decryption. In short sender and the receiver uses same key to open the message.
Whereas Asymmetric Scheme is totally opposite of symmetric, it uses different keys one is secret/private key and second is public key. Here sender uses public key of the receiver and in return receiver uses his private/secret key to gain the message.Asymmetric is widely used in digital signature.
