Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Broads refer to a network of rivers and lakes in the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, England. Norfolk is a low-lying county situated in East Anglia in the east area of southern England. The Broads fall partly within this county. The area is usually defined in terms of "Norfolk Broads" and "Suffolk Broads" to demarcate the section within the two counties, the whole area is occasionally called the "Norfolk broads". The total area of the Broads is 303 km² and it has more than 200 km of navigable waterways. The majority of the area lies in Norfolk.

There are 7 rivers and approximately 50 broads, most of which are less than 12 feet deep. Only 13 of the 50 or so broads are usually open to navigation. There are navigation restrictions imposed on some broads during autumn and winter. The Broads Authority is a Special Statutory Authority that manages the Broads. It has been operational since1989.
