This book had been written in the year 1942 and published the next year, however it had been revised and a new version was released in the year 1971.

In the first version the main plot revolves around the investigation of missing silk worms which are quite important for scientist and their experiments. As the Hardy brothers search for clues and dig deeper to solve the crime they get themselves into a life threatening danger but at he same time lead to the investigation of a government theft, headed by the father.

The book concludes in Hardy's nabbing the thieves and returning all the stolen material. Book makes for a quite interesting read and the Hardy boys is quite popular among children.
