Bratislava (or Pressburg/Pozsony), the capital city of Slovakia, might just be poised to become Central Europe's Manhattan, due to a series of massive development projects that would see the construction of a series of skyscrapers over the next few years. According to many observers, it appears as though Bratislava has little choice but to build highrise buildings, due to the city's proximity to both the Austrian and Hungarian border, and the consequent lack of space in which the city could expand.

Bratislava's first skyscraper nearing completion is the Tower 115, which is a 115m high, 28 storey building, located near the River Danube. This building, however, will soon be dwarfed by "Panorama City," a set of twin towers, with the taller tower rising to a height of 141m. Panorama City will, most likely, be completed by 2009.

Provided that everything goes according to plans, Bratislava's tallest skyscraper will be the Twin City, a 170m high, 42 storey building scheduled to open in 2011. Twin City is part of a project aimed at rejuvenating Bratislava's industrial district.
