What Do I Do If My Child Is Obsessed With Watching Tv?

They react badly if i curtail their tv time. Two hours a day is just not happening. Now they have Internet access and they are becoming obsessed with you tube. I don't want to be a dictator but i am worried that it really will hurt them.

What I would do, is find something really fun that everyone likes to do that they will want to do all of the time.

You need to make rules for your child and have task for them to do around the house to earn tv and computer time. For every hour they help you let them have a certain amount of time for themselves. I know this is hard to do as a parent but it is a part of teaching the child responsibility and how the real world is.

In my opinion, homework time (as well as chore time) should also "count" toward earning TV or video-game or recreational-computer time.

If the parent is present and a VCR or similar is available, things may be taped with the TV turned off.  Poof!  With fast-forward a time-wasting hour show becomes a 45-minute waste when viewed later.

You need to put the rules down again. Let them know that you are the parent, and you set the rules.
