What Is The Administrative Region Of South Africa?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Transkei is the administrative region of South Africa and it limits the Lesotho and Indian Ocean. Transkei was created by South Africa in the year of 1959, as the first Bantu homeland. The non independent native or black state was designed for the xhosa-speaking people. The plan for a non independent state was made together with Ciskei.

Transkei became a independent republic in 1976 and after that all the black Africans lost their South African citizenship. They got the citizenship of the new country, Transkei, whether they lived there or not. Those Africans or black Africans who had a language tie with Transkei lost their old citizenship and got the new one of the new born country. So, the reason of existing or to build up a new country was an element of Apartheid system and for this cause it was never ever received international recognition.

The region of Transkei was reincorporated to South Africa as a part of Eastern Cape and Natal provinces, in the year of 1994.
