You could try it and see but i usually have one of the video places buff out the scratches. Buybacks will usually do it for free unless it is really scratched up. This seems like a design flaw in the players.that or you could buy a lense cleaning kit to buff out the disc/dvd/cd yourself i think some computer stores even carry/sell a portable cleaner to fix scratches.www.amazon.com
