Thalwil is in Switzerland. It is a village close to Zurich. Its inhabitants number about 16,000 according to a census of 2003. It is located on the Zimmerberg ridge which is in between the Sihl River and the Zurich Lake. On its boundaries are the communes of Horgen, Obberrieden and Langnau am Albis. Talwile mentioned in 1030 is the oldest recorded name of Thalwil and is derived from Tellewilare, Tello's Farm. Thalwil was probably an Alemannic farmstead. Very few graves still exist from this period. The Parish of Thalwil earlier consisted of four hamlets namely- Langnau, Unterdorf, Oberdorf and Ludretikon.

Thalwil has some of the best church locations the Platte which has panoramic views of the Lake Zurich. The earliest church on record is in 1159 regarding the Church that was dedicated to St Martin. Ferdinand Stadler designed a much bigger church than the existing chapel in 1845. It is also a very industrially developed area.
