What Can Be Done For Joint Pain?

Doctors have told my husband he does not have neuropathy or rheumatoid arthritis and he's had HIV for at least 15 years.

Two Orthopedic doctors have recommended that I take Glucosamine and Chondroitin for joint pain. It comes pre-mixed and in capsule form.
It takes several weeks to get into your system. I have only just started this regime, so I can not tell you if it works or not, but was told by an aquaintance that it has helped him.
I also take 800 ml. Of Ibuprophen for its' anti-inflammatory effects. It helps, but have been warned by my doctor to take it with a full glass of whole milk to prevent damage of the stomach.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have done a little reading on HIV and saw that it can cause joint pain. Honestly, I have Osteoarthritis in different parts of my body and have yet to find anything that works very well. The anti-inflammatory only helps to relieve the burning sensation, but doesn't do much for the pain. I wish you all the best and will be watching your question to see if anyone has any suggestions. Who knows, we might get some info from someone out there that might work. Good luck to you and welcome to Blurtit.

I have osteoarthritis in a lot of my joints and never really get any relief. I take ibuprofen to keep the inflammation down. My dr wants me to take Celebrex instead of ibuprofen because it is easier on the stomach but my insurance won't cover it.  I can't take Chondroitin because it is derived from shellfish and I am allergic to shellfish so I don't know how well that works. Good luck and I hope he gets some pain relief.

The only relief I have had is from narcotic pain meds, the supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs and the available OA drugs just have not been effective for me.  I did well on the Vioxx before it was taken off market but so far, nothing else has helped me.
