Or you may need a new heating element.

As hot water heaters get older, a "build-up" of sludge that is created by hard water begins to build up in your tank. If it isn't cleaned periodically, it could damage it beyond repair. It can be cleaned out with white vinegar or a product like "Lime-Away". You may want to contact your local plumber/maintenance person if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself.

I am a plumber and they all could be right!
First how long ago was it working right? Not long ago rules out #1!
Never been right then #1 might be right!
If so turn off your water supply, and go to the sink and turn on the water till it stops. Then go to the hot water side pipe and take it off.
Then look in side the pipe is their wall build up?
      Then #1 is right.
      CALL A PLUMBER!

IT WAS HOT AND JUST SLOWED DOWN!
Then you have two elements, and 60% of the time it's the bottom one! BUT IT IS ONE OF THEM!
I have a a Plumber group click my BLUE name and go down the page and join it, plus rate my answer!
      THANK YOU!
