Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham, is the home of Warwickshire CCC. It has also been a Test match venue since 1902. The stadium's capacity is 21,000. The crowd at Edgbaston is renowned for its vociferousness and has been described by Cricket legend Ian Botham as "like having a twelfth man".
In terms of international matches hosted at this venue, the Ashes test of 2005 is most notable. It was one of the most exciting climaxes to a match in Test history. Australia were eight wickets down with 107 runs to win going into the fourth day. Many thought the match would be all over in about half an hour. Some who lived away from Birmingham and had tickets decided not to make the journey for this reason. But Australia fought back. With the tourists needing 2 runs to win, Geraint Jones took a dramatic catch behind the stumps off the bowling of Steve Harmison to win.
