    Holland is often wrongly taken to be the Netherlands. It is a region which is located in the central-western part of the Netherlands. It has a total population of 6.07 inhabitants.

    North Holland is known in Dutch as Noord-Holland. It covers a total area of approximately 2, 670 square kilometres. It is the sixth-largest province of the Netherlands. According to the  population census, in the year 2006, the population of North Holland was estimated to be approximately 2, 606, 584.

    South Holland, on the other hand, is known in Dutch as Zuid-Holland. It covers a total area of approximately 2, 818 square kilometres. It is the fifth-largest province of the Netherlands. According to the population census  , in the year 2006, the population of South Holland was estimated to be approximately 3, 458, 875.
