Why Do Different Types Of Chickens Lay Different Color Egg?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It is all set in their genes when they are born.  Certain breeds will lay brown eggs and some
will lay white eggs.  Some breeds even lay multi-colored eggs and they  are referred
to as "Easter eggers".  Did you know that you can tell whether or not it will be a brown, white,
or multi-colored egg layer by looking at the hens ear lobe?  A white egg layer will have a
white ear lobe and a brown egg layer will have a brown ear lobe.  I have not raised any
"Easter-eggers" so I don't know but are their ear lobes rainbow colored?? Hmmmmmm.
