What's In Pendine Sands, Wales?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Pendine Sands is basically a seven mile long beach positioned on the shores of Carmarthen Bay, exactly on the south coast of Wales. It extends from the Gilman point in the west to Laugharne Sands in the east. The township of Pendine is sited close to the western end of Pendine Sands.

Initially in the 1900s the sand area was used as track for car and motor bike races. Hence from the year 1922 the yearly welsh TT motor cycle event was hosted by Pendine Sands. The firm flat exterior of the beach formed a racing track which was considerably smoother and straighter than a large number of roads during that time. The "Motor Cycle" magazine illustrate the sands of Pendine as "The finest natural speedway imaginable" which was in a way a huge compliment for the Pendine sands.
