My Old Model Pick Up Seems To Suffer From Noisy Door Syndrome, What Can I Do To Cure It?

Answer Question

First of all, take a close look at the weather stripping around each door, the driver's one in particular. Look for signs of damage or wear, and replace if necessary as bad door seals are a major cause of noise.

Once fitted with a new door seal, check that each door actually makes a good contact all the way round. Dampen the metal of the door frame and sprinkle baby powder or corn starch on the rubber. You should see a transfer right round the edge of the entire door if it makes a good contact with the door seal.

If not, the door needs adjusting. However, be aware that with older trucks this might be difficult to achieve as the door pins and door hinges will be past their best. Wear on the door pins and hinges will cause the door to sag, so getting the correct alignment may be next to impossible without replacement parts. Even then, though, the door may still not close properly as it could have become slightly warped or twisted over time.
