What Do You Do When A Kitten Has An Eye Infection?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

This kitten should be examined by a veterinarian.  Conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infections are common in kittens--especially from shelters or stray parents.  Conjunctivitis produces a green or yellowish discharge.  It cannot be transmitted to people or other pets.  Topical antibiotics will be prescribed.  Do not use human ocular medication--cats should not be given certain antibiotics that are safe in other species.
Your kitten also needs to be started on its vaccination and deworming series.

I have a kitten about 3 mos.old. Ever since I got him, at 10 weeks, he has had greenish discharge from his eyes, I figured it was conjunctivitis. I've been to the vet twice and have been giving the kitten Terramycin, my question is how long do I give him the antibiotic ointment? I've gone thru one tube and on the second. At times it seems like there is less discharge but than it goes right back to the same amount. Any input would help. Thanks
