    Karlis Ulmanis was the founder of the Latvian Farmers' Union. It was founded in the year 1917. In that time Latvia was under Russian rule and the union was established to make pressure for independence from Russian rule.

    Karlis was born on 4th September 1877 in Latvia. He was a Latvian independence leader and he was also the prime minister of Latvia. As an agronomist he worked to improve farming in Latvia. Karlis was enforced into tax exile to the United States in the year of 1905. He was a teacher of agriculture at the University of Nebraska, till the year 1913.

    Karlis Ulmanis became the prime minister of the independent republic of Latvia. It was the year 1918, when Latvia became free from Russian rules. Karlis worked to defend against internal rebellion. He also instituted authoritarian rules in the year 1934.

    He resigned from his post in 1940 because of Soviet force. He was arrested and died in Russia, in the year of 1942.
