How To Give An Injection?

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Before injecting, have a look at the hypodermic needle and make sure that it is sharp and the needle is not damaged. For an intradermal subcutaneous injection, you have to disinfect the area around the part of the skin with alcohol. Fill the syringe with the appropriate amount of the substance to be injected and
and dispose of the drawing-up needle.

Insert a new, pointed needle onto the plunger and clutch the plunger about 20 to 25 mm (3/4 to 1 inch) from the front of the barrel, where the needle has been fitted onto it, between the forefinger of your working hand and the thumb. Grip the skin around the part to be injected with your less used hand. Your fingers should be about 30mm (11/2 inches) apart and draw the skin together into a ridge. Turn the syringe in such a manner that the taper of the needle is on one line; it must not be above or below the needle. Insert the needle rapidly and smoothly into the skin and gently surge forward until the needle has inserted into the required depth. Let go the skin or muscle now and use the forefinger and the thumb of the less used hand to grip the front of the syringe so that your working hand can move back to the plunger. Retract the plunger to make sure that you do not pierce a blood vessel. If the syringe does not draw up blood, slowly remove the force from the plunger.
