What Is The Difference Between Material And Non Material Culture?

Culture is a socially learned and transmitted behavior. Ideas, norms, values and beliefs are largely dependent on the kind of culture we belong to as the products of this culture.

The non material aspects of any culture are its beliefs, customs, philosophy, patterns and ways of communication (verbal and non-verbal) and its government. The material aspect of culture consists of the physical. These are houses, food items, factories, raw materials and technologies. Every culture is the product of this interaction between its' material and non material aspects.

"Culture" also gives the meaning to an object. For example, a ring might be just an artifact, but in a society where wedding rings are exchanged, it will be valued differently.

It is easier to change the material culture of any society than the non material part of it.

Material culture are things that can be touched or felt ,seen or heard while non-material culture are intangible things or things that cannot be touched.

Material culture denotes the tangible items, sources and places that people use to identify their culture. For example homes, churches, temples, mosques, tools, means of production, products and services, clothes and so forth. All of these tangible items of a culture aid to classify its members' behaviors and perception.

Non-material culture refers to the intangible things that people have to identify their culture, such as beliefs, values, rules, symbols, customs, norms, morals, language and so on. For example, the non-material cultural is a set of ideas and beliefs about spirit, worship and ethics. These beliefs, then, affects the religious issues, and events.

The type of culture in which we use any object like dress, buildings, food items, e.t.c  I mean it belonging to any material.     While the non material culture in which we do not use any object for example; beliefs, education, religion, language e.t.c.

Material culture is a form of culture you can touch and sense - things like producttion tools and other  products are examples.
