Don't listen to Rodriguez cause he's got it all wrong. Mercury's atmosphere is very thin, there for being properly called an exosphere, and is made up of atoms blasted of it's surface by solar winds. The atoms escape the atmosphere because of how weak it is, thus leaving it to replenish. Mercury's atmosphere is also made up of sodium gas and very little amount of oxygen. But humans need nitrogen to survive too, so putting someone on Mercury would probably be a great punishment.
