The sound card can be a separate card attached to the motherboard, or can be built into the motherboard itself. If it is separate then you can take it out easily. However it is impossible to take out one built into a motherboard. A good way to tell is to see whether the plugs for the headphones/speakers are attached to the motherboard or a separate card.
