What Are Those Bumps On The Keys On My Keyboard?

Answer Question

The F and J keys on your computer (as well as on any old fashion typewriter you might come across) or a very good reason. These two bumps are actually there to help position your hands on the keyboard in the correct places without looking down. All you have to do is feel around for those two bumps with the pointer fingers of each hand, and you will be in the correct position for touch typing. Your middle fingers will fall on D and K; your ring fingers on S and L; your pinkies on A and :; and your thumbs hang in there ready to hit that space bar!

The keyboard on your modern day computer is actually a design from over a hundred years ago. This is a key configuration called QWERTY for the letters on the top letter row on the left side of the keyboard. The engineer who designed the QWERTY board did it to actually slow down the typist, since the typewriter, the original use of a keyboard, would jam if you typed too fast.

Today a lot of folks just use the hunt n' peck system. Look down. Hunt for the key, and hit it!

Without looking you can feel where to put your index fingers using this bumps. With your fingers on the small bumps (or lines) your hands are perfectly positioned for typing. Now you can type without having to look at your hands.
