Who Is Mira Sorvino?

Mira Katherine Sorvino is an Italian-American actress.

She was born on the 28th of September, 1967 and is the daughter of character actor Paul Sorvino who starred in 'The Goodfellas' and 'Romeo and Juliet'.

Sorvino was an incredibly academic child, who was interested in becoming an actress. Her father discouraged her from this dream.
She attended Harvard University where she majored in Mandarin Chinese, which she can speak fluently.

Following her graduation in 1989, Sorvino began to attempt to get acting work. After a number of small roles, she made her mark when she was cast in the 1994 movie 'Quiz Show' which gained her a lot of positive attention.

She was given the lead in Woody Allen's 'Mighty Aphrodite' in 1995 which won her an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Sorvino has had a string of success with subsequent movies including 'Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion' and 'Summer of Sam'.

In her personal life, Mira Sorvino got married on the Italian island of Capri in 2004 to Christopher Backus. The couple have a daughter named Mattea.
