Is A Widow Accepted In Every Society?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Widows are usually not liked and accepted in all the societies of the world. They are treated more or less as second citizens in every country. People usually do not have sympathetic hearts for them. So far your question that is a widow accepted in every society, the answer could be justified as follows.
If we talk about Eastern countries of the world like sub-continent and others, once a woman becomes widow, she is not liked or accepted there like other girls and women. Men usually do not like to marry them and accept them as first class citizens of the country. Though it's a wrong practice yet it is prevailing in these countries.
Now we come towards U.S.A and European countries, here things are a bit different. Men here go for second marriage with the widow and sometimes accept them completely. But if we talk as a whole about the society, here again the things are not very positive and usually widows are not treated well and considered as first class citizens. Islam is the only religion that gives full respect to a widow and asks the Muslims of the world to do so as well.

I was interested in what you had to say about Muslims and widows and this is very enlightening.

I live in Britain and was widowed at a relatively young age. I also have aquaintences who have a similar experience at young ages.I have found nothing but kindness and respect from everyone.

I think here in Britain we don't have any problem with widows. Some other women might see us as a threat to their husbands - I've heard this but have never experienced it.
I live life to the full, have married, single and widowed friends and have never been made to feel inferior or excluded at all. I have a very full life.

A great many men and women marry again after a period of being widowed.I think you'll find there is no sigma in the United Kingdom and I was sad to read what can happen in other countries.A person, female or male does not cease to exist as a human being in their own right just because their partner dies.

I think many of the less kind and antiquated attitudes towards widows in other countries will gradually disappear with re-education and enlightenment. In Britain there has never been a great problem or I think in many parts of Northern Europe at least.

Historically many people of both sexes died young before the advent of modern medicine and being a widow or widower was very common in British society, many would re-marry and this was totally accepted.

Let's hope that one day soon the lot of widows all over the world will be alot better.
