Where Is The Cotopaxi Volcano?

    The Cotopaxi Volcano is located in the Andean mountain range, in Ecuador, South America. It is bordered by the Cotopaxi, Pichincha and Napo provinces of Ecuador; some 48 kilometers south of the Capital Quito. Ecuador is a tiny country in North West South America. It is bordered by Columbia to the North West, Peru to the East and South, and the Pacific Ocean to the West.

    The mountain lies in an area that has been designated as a national park. The national park covers an area of 340 sq km. It dates back about 32 years, having being set up in 1975.  The park houses a breeding station for llamas and a satellite-tracking station established by NASA.

    The first known men who ascended the peak of the Cotopaxi Mountain were Wilhelm Reiss and Angel M. Field in 1872; A German and a Colombian respectively.
