I can tell you that you will make more money if you attend a regular school of Cosmetology, learn all you can about hair cutting, especially mens cuts and go to a few clipper cut hair shows. Then get a job as a barber.
You can cut 12 haircuts in the time it takes you to do one perm or color. That is 12 tips verses 1 tip and most barber shops pay a higher percentage than full service salons.
Many barber shops will rent you a chair on a daily basis. Two haircuts to pay for the chair and take home the rest.
Also, there is less over head to buy for a barber than there is for a stylist.
Time is money. You can spend 30 to 60 minutes shampooing, cutting, blow drying and styling one ladies hair or 7 to 10 minutes cutting a mans hair. If the ladies cut was $25 to 30 dollars and the mans cut was 10 to $15, you could do 5 to 8 mens cuts in the same amount of time it took to do the one woman. That would be anywhere from $50 to $120 in the same time frame. Plus the $3 to $10 per person tip. Most men tend to tip better than women.
