Well truthfully I am not a person who would choose to work at a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) enterprise, for a number of reasons. My main reason would be, I do not like to talk on the telephone except for short periods of time, and then only when necessary. I once worked as a Member Services Representative for a company. While, talking on the phone with over a hundred people a day, I developed tennis elbow, and since then, I do not like to spend time on the telephone.
It is wonderful other people do not feel as I feel, and for this reason those who work at BPO's render a great service to people like you and me. Without people willing to do this work our lives would be very difficult at times. I see no reason why anyone who enjoys working for BPO's in any capacity, should hesitate to do so. These companies provide jobs and services and this is a good thing.
A large number of BPO's are call centres, human resources centres, and accounting/payroll outsourcing centres. When we receive or make a telephone call and realize the person speaking with us has a foreign accent, very often, this is because the person is not actually in the same country, we are in at the time. Some company's run what is know as off-shore BPO's and although the company is located in one country, the people being helped by the services are not in the same country.
One of the latest estimates I have come across recently is the global BPO industry value is estimated to be $120-150 billion dollars. The United States, India, China, South Africa, the Philippines and Eastern Europe presently claim the bulk of BPO companies.
The success of the BPO's is dependent upon the telecommunications industry, without which, these companies could not exist. This business depends upon computers and computer engineers, technicians, programmers, and software testers, designers and developers to keep their business up and running. Besides telecommunications technical personnel, people with accounting and financial services knowledge, are among the types of workers within these companies.
