Plantar warts, or verrucas, are caused by a virus that gets into the skin cells and disrupts their normal cell division, thereby forming what we see as a wart or verruca.

Because the virus is hidden from the immune system, warts can last for months or even years. However, if the virus gets noticed by the immune system, the system will make antibodies to the virus. When there are sufficient antibodies made, the wart will just go, as will any others that may have been formed since the first one started.

Most treatments function on the principle of destroying every single skin cell that has become infected. This is why most treatments are painful, and also why they frequently fail - there only needs to be ONE cell left, and the verruca will regrow.

Your best bet is to rub the wart with a nail file (that you never use on anything else ever) until you get some bleeding. That way you hope to introduce a little of the virus DNA to the immune system, thereby starting the formation of antibodies. Keep doing this a few times a week. This should work, and once immune she will not get another wart of that strain again.

There is a medicated pad available at most drug stores, Wal Mart, and other chains. You apply one pad to each wart and after a few days the wart is dissolved. I can't remember the name of it, but if you ask someone who works in pharmacy, they should be able to tell you. They are not expensive.
