Thomas Andrews was the man who designed the famous Olympic and Titanic ships. He was a managing director of Harland and Wolff shipbuilders in 1912. When he designed the Titanic, he has planned for approximately sixty lifeboats. However, this plan was ignored because he believed that the ship could not sink and wanted to put more emphasis on lavish decorations and accomodations on the ship. He decided to come aboard Titanic, on her maiden voyage so that he could see how things were going and where he could make possible improvements. He always took great pride and honor in all of the ships that he designed and built. When the Titanic was sinking, he worked very hard trying to save passengers lives and get them aboard one of the few lifeboats that were available. Thomas Andrews did not survive the Titanic disaster and his memorial is located in his hometown of Comber, Scotland.
